Andrej Stojaković impressed at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, drawing attention with his athletic testing and physical tools, but one of the most interesting topics surrounding the Illinois wing remains his national team future.
The son of legendary Serbian forward Peja Stojaković is eligible to represent both Serbia and Greece internationally, and he admitted that a decision could come soon.
“I’m meeting with both teams, soon after the combine. If it feels right, I’ll make the decision soon. If it doesn’t, I’ll still wait,” Stojakovic said.
FIBA national team qualifiers are scheduled for late June and early July, potentially opening the door for his debut with whichever country he ultimately chooses.
However, the 21-year-old made it clear that his development remains the priority at the moment, especially as he continues navigating the NBA Draft process while also keeping the option of returning to Illinois Fighting Illini on the table.
“I know there’s a qualification window late June, early July. Both teams are very interested in me playing, but either going back to school or staying in the NBA, if it means to stay focused and grow, rather than playing for the national team right now, that’s what I’m going to do,” Stojakovic explained.
Stojakovic was among the standout performers at the Combine, recording the best maximum vertical leap among Day 1 participants with a 41.5-inch jump, while also finishing near the top in multiple athletic testing categories.
Despite receiving strong feedback in Chicago, a return to Illinois for the 2026/27 season is still viewed by many analysts as the most likely outcome.
