The New York Knicks have officially accepted an invitation to the White House to celebrate their NBA championship.

Owner James Dolan confirmed the upcoming visit during a Wednesday interview on WFAN radio, noting his long-standing friendship with United States president Donald Trump, who previously attended the NBA Finals 2026 at Madison Square Garden.

“We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted,” he said. “We still have to figure out the details, but yes, of course. Look, I invited the president to come down for the game. He is a friend. I’ve known him for 30 years, and I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House.”

After topping the field in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, presented by Google, and ending a 53-year title drought, the Knicks will become the very first NBA champion to visit the White House during either of Trump’s two presidential terms.

While the organization celebrates, 71-year-old Dolan also provided a critical preview of the team’s financial strategy heading into the 2026–27 Regular Season. Despite the euphoria of winning the title, the owner explicitly stated that the franchise will not cross into the NBA’s highly punitive luxury tax second apron to keep the current championship roster entirely intact. This disciplined fiscal approach means management will face tough personnel decisions in the coming months to avoid severe salary cap penalties and draft restrictions.

In the immediate term, the city’s focus remains squarely on celebrating the monumental achievement. Championship festivities will culminate on Thursday with a massive victory parade winding through the streets of Manhattan. To ensure public safety during the historic celebration, the New York Police Department announced a record-breaking security deployment of 10,000 officers to be stationed along the parade route.
