Dennis Schroder enters the offseason yet again at the center of rampant trade speculation, a familiar position for a player rapidly cementing his status as the ultimate NBA journeyman.

The German guard, currently with the Cleveland Cavaliers following a midseason acquisition, reportedly finds himself on the chopping block. Under contract until the end of the 2027–28 season, his $14.8 million salary is actively being packaged by the Cavs, drawing trade interest from suitors like the Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and Orlando Magic, according to league insiders. If a deal materializes, it will mark the 13th time he has changed teams in his 13-year career, potentially landing him with his 12th different franchise, a staggering statistic that highlights his turbulent life in the league.

During his brief tenure in Ohio, Schroder served as a vital bench spark, averaging 7.2 points and 3.6 assists across 47 combined appearances between the 2025–26 Regular Season and the Playoffs, presented by Google. While his shooting efficiency dipped to 40.1 percent from the floor, his veteran presence guided Cleveland deep into the postseason.

This unstable North American career stands in stark contrast to his monumental success on the international stage, where the senior national team captain enjoys absolute security and legendary status. He famously led Germany to its historic first-ever FIBA World Cup gold medal in 2023, earning Most Valuable Player honors, and followed it up by capturing first place and the MVP title in EuroBasket 2025.

However, his erratic NBA journey found a rare moment of deep stability this past season through his connection with head coach Kenny Atkinson. Their bond dates back to 2013, when the New York native mentored a rookie Schroder in Atlanta. Atkinson even played professionally in Braunschweig, the hometown where the guard has been the majority owner of Basketball Lowen Braunschweig since 2018.
