Mario Hezonja has informed Real Madrid that he will leave the club this summer and return to the NBA.
This information was reported by journalist Chema de Lucas.
The turbulent summer continues in Madrid. Real has changed its coach and a large number of players, and now they’ve learned that they will also lose Hezonja, a key player from previous seasons.
Although he had a contract until 2029, Hezonja had an NBA opt-out clause until July 20, which he decided to exercise.
Mario has decided to return to the NBA, where he already played for the Orlando Magic from 2015 to 2018, then for the New York Knicks in the 2018-2019 season, as well as one year with the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Croatian forward played in Europe for Barcelona for three seasons, and after returning from the NBA, he played for Panathinaikos and UNICS.
He has been with Real Madrid since 2022, winning one EuroLeague, two Endesa leagues, one Copa del Rey, and two Super Cups with them.
