For Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Filathlitikos Indoor Gym in Zografou is far more than just another basketball court. It is the place where his journey began—and now, he’s back.
The two-time NBA MVP recently shared a simple message on social media “Back where it all started”, alongside footage from the historic gym that helped shape his early years before his rise to global stardom.
Today, the gym stands as a tribute to that remarkable journey, decorated with photos and memorabilia celebrating the rise of one of basketball’s biggest global icons.
Interestingly, Giannis wasn’t the only NBA player on that floor this week.
Miami Heat point guard Davion Mitchell also trained at the Filathlitikos gym during his offseason visit to Greece. Mitchell, who is expected to become Miami’s starting point guard following the blockbuster trade that brought Antetokounmpo to South Beach, appears eager to build chemistry with his new superstar teammate.
Training on the very court where Giannis first dreamed of the NBA serves as a symbolic reminder of how far he has come—and how meaningful it is to return to where it all began.
