Luka Doncic is taking center stage for the Los Angeles Lakers following the historic $12.5 billion franchise sale to Bob Iger and Jared Kushner.
Although the 27-year-old Slovenian superstar was not consulted prior to the transaction, he remains highly optimistic about the future of the organization.
Doncic expressed his excitement on social media, emphasizing that being a Laker means everything to him and that he is focused on bringing an 18th NBA championship to Los Angeles.

Navigating leadership transitions has become a familiar routine for the six-time All-Star, making Doncic highly adaptable, since having already played under five different ownership groups throughout his NBA career. His former team, the Dallas Mavericks, was sold by Mark Cuban shortly before Doncic was traded. In Southern California, the Lakers’ ownership has rapidly passed from Jeanie Buss to Mark Walter, and now to the Iger-Kushner group.
As detailed by ESPN on Thursday, Doncic remains unbothered by the rotating cast of executives above him. His primary expectation for ownership is simply the commitment of adequate funding and a shared desire to win. In addition to preparing to host his Lakers teammates for an upcoming minicamp in Slovenia, he will also conduct a formal video conference call with Iger and Kushner next week to align their championship vision.
Until being forced to the sidelines at the bottom end of the 2025–26 Regular Season, the Ljubljana native solidified this elite status, as he dominated the NBA in scoring and playmaking, single-handedly carrying the offense and proving he can lead a championship-caliber team.
