Veteran NBA point guard Dennis Schroder is already charting the final stretch of his career, expressing a desire to play for another ‘two to four more years’.
When addressing speculation regarding a potential homecoming to European basketball, particularly within the EuroLeague, the 32-year-old playmaker made it clear he has no intention of simply bolstering an established continental powerhouse.
“People often ask me if I could come back to play in Europe, especially in the EuroLeague,” he noted during a recent appearance on the OMR Podcast. “But in that case, I’d be helping another club become bigger. I prefer to return to Braunschweig, where it all started, and play here.”
While mapping out his future, the Braunschweig native and majority shareholder of the local professional team acknowledged that soaring financial projections in the NBA could influence his timeline. Pointing to the league economics and front-office spending, he admitted that a lucrative contract offer could alter his plans.
“I’ve heard that in 2028, NBA salaries are going to increase even more. Obviously, it’s not just about money, but if they put 10, 15, or 20 million a year on the table, then I might think about it a little longer,” he explained.
Securing that next deal remains a priority, as Schroder understands the volatile nature of roster turnover and roster spots, observing that every season brings a fresh wave of talent while forcing others out of the league.
“After this season, my goal will be to extend again. Every year, about 30 new players enter the league, and 30 others have to leave. If you arrive at that point without a contract, no matter your level, it can happen that you don’t get one anymore,” he said.
Ultimately, the Charlotte Hornets player remains focused on maximizing his remaining years in the NBA before eventually orchestrating a sentimental final chapter with his hometown club.
