Kyrie Irving, who has been undergoing treatment for an anterior cruciate ligament tear for more than a year and last stepped on the court on March 3, 2025, is finally preparing to return to action on the floor.
Although many teams tried to acquire Irving during the summer, the Dallas Mavericks organization firmly rejected all trade offers that came in. At first glance, it was thought that the team wanted to keep its veteran guard on the roster, but according to a report by Sean Deveney, the Dallas front office is pursuing a different strategy behind the scenes.
According to the claims, if Irving can prove on the court that he can perform at a level close to what he showed before his injury, the Mavericks plan to move him before the final days of the trade deadline in February.
Even though Irving is still a very talented and productive player individually, he does not fit with Dallas’s new vision. The fact that Cooper Flagg, the new face of the team, is only 19 years old has completely changed the priorities of the Mavericks. Instead of keeping a 34-year-old veteran star on the roster, the Dallas management now aims to surround Flagg with young players and future assets.
The big question now is which jersey the star, who was playing at an All-Star level before his injury and finished the 2024–25 season with averages of 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game, will be wearing in the near future.
