The Cleveland Cavaliers issued a statement announcing changes in their front office that also involve Jose Calderon, the former Spanish basketball player.
Calderon has become one of the assistant general managers of the Cavaliers, alongside Brendon Yu, while Brandon Weems has been promoted to general manager.
“Cleveland Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman announced today that Brandon Weems has been promoted to General Manager. The team has also elevated Jon Nichols to Associate General Manager and Brendon Yu and José Calderón to Assistant General Managers. The Cavaliers have also added Dashiell Flynn as Chief Technology Officer of Basketball Operations. All appointments are effective immediately.”
In their announcement, the Cavs recalled all of the Spanish player’s achievements, noting that he also played in the 2018 NBA Finals with them.
“Calderon rejoined the organization in 2022 as Special Advisor to the Front Office. He was instrumental in assisting the front office in achieving their goals both on and off the court in a variety of engagements, including the Cavaliers’ 2026 Training Camp at The Embassy in Andalusia.
Prior to joining the front office, Calderón previously worked for the National Basketball Players Association where he served as the Special Assistant to the Executive Director, working closely with then-NBPA Executive Director Michele Roberts and the NBPA’s senior management team on union strategy and specific issues relevant to current NBA players. Calderón spent 14 seasons in the NBA, playing for seven different teams, including the Cavaliers’ NBA Finals run during the 2017-18 season.”
