Stephen Curry has secured a contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, confirming projections on the final chapters of his historic NBA career.
Per ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania, the deal is a two-year, $116 million contract featuring a player option for the 2028–29 season.
The Warriors later annouced the agreement and released further details on Friday.
Per the press release: “The Golden State Warriors have signed four-time NBA champion and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry to a contract extension, it was announced Friday. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.
“We couldn’t be more excited about reaching an agreement with Stephen and extending his historic career with the Warriors,” said Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy. “Personally, I don’t think there has ever been a better face to a franchise in professional sports history, both on and off the court, than Stephen Curry with the Warriors. He embodies everything this organization strives to represent through his legendary play on the court, his unique leadership and sacrifice, and his unmatched impact in the community. We’ve been incredibly blessed to experience 17 years of Stephen’s artistry and are thrilled that our fans will continue to have the opportunity to watch him perform and write additional chapters to his illustrious story.”
Curry, 38, averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 30.9 minutes per game across 43 games (41 starts) in 2025-26, earning his 12th career NBA All-Star selection. Curry missed 39 games in 2025-26, including 27 due to patellofemoral pain syndrome, or bone bruising, in his right knee.
Curry owns career averages of 24.8 points, 6.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 34.0 minutes in 1,069 games (1,061 starts) over a franchise-record 17 seasons with Golden State. A member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team and 11-time All-NBA Team selection, Curry is the NBA’s all-time 3-point leader with 4,248 career regular-season threes (42.2 3P%) and holds the all-time playoff record with 650 3-pointers on 39.7% shooting. He also holds the NBA’s highest all-time regular-season free throw percentage, shooting 91.2% on 4,645 career attempts. Curry ranks as the franchise’s all-time leader in points (26,528), field goals (9,022), assists (6,743), steals (1,602) and games played (1,069). The 2022 NBA Finals MVP has helped lead the Warriors to four NBA championships (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022), six NBA Finals appearances (2015-19, 2022), 10 playoff berths (2013-2019, 2022-23, 2024-25) and an NBA-record 73-win season in 2015-16. He earned back-to-back MVP Awards in 2014-15 and 2015-16 and is the only player ever to win the award by a unanimous vote (2015-16).
Internationally, Curry earned his first Olympic gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, averaging a team-best 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 23.3 minutes in six games. He joined LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Bill Russell as the only players in NBA history to win at least four NBA championships, two MVP Awards and an Olympic gold medal.”
