Victor Wembanyama meant business at the top of the NBA Preseason 2026.
At the San Antonio Spurs’ annual open scrimmage, the French superstar looked dominant. He treated his teammates like true opponents. The 22-year-old center controlled both ends of the floor. He logged 16 points in just 21 minutes. A packed Frost Bank Center crowd greeted him with roaring MVP chants.
This marked the start of his fourth NBA season in San Antonio, arriving nearly four months after a tough Finals 2026 loss to the New York Knicks. Already a two-time All-Star and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Wemby has quickly established himself as San Antonio’s leader, while evolving into a premier global icon.
Sunday’s Silver & Black Open Scrimmage showcased a deeper, more explosive roster for the team coached by Mitch Johnson. However, the evening brought one setback. Tobias Harris sat out with a left calf strain from training camp. The new veteran forward has been officially ruled out for the entire preseason. He remains questionable for opening night.
Even without Harris, the Spurs showed plenty of firepower. Keldon Johnson led all scorers with 19 points. Dylan Harper followed closely, dropping 18 points. Julian Champagnie also made a strong case for the starting lineup with 17 points.
Next, San Antonio hosts the Atlanta Hawks this Thursday. After five total exhibition games, they will tip off the 2026–27 Regular Season. The opener is against the Oklahoma City Thunder at home on October 20.
