The transition to a new franchise can be daunting, but Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is settling into Florida through a mix of physical relief and grueling hard work.
Visiting the Thanalysis Show, the former NBA champion with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021 offered a candid look at his adjustment to the Miami Heat, the reality of his team’s conditioning routines, and a private battle with sports obsession. Following the first part on Tuesday, the second was posted on Wednesday.
Reflecting on his first days in town, Giannis admitted the climate has done wonders for his body. “I enjoy the weather. It’s good for my joints,” he noted, explaining that he now steps onto the court and just plays without extensive stretching.
However, the sunshine does not provide an escape from the Athens native conditioning program, which the forward described as flat-out ‘insane’. He recalled how drills known as ‘Miamis’ in other cities are just standard, daily baseline runs here. “I don’t think I’ve ever run this much in my life,” he said. “Nobody cheats. Everybody works hard. Not just the players, the staff. Everybody works hard.”
He praised the staff for pushing players to their absolute limits, explaining that he thrives in an environment where you either quit or keep going. Beyond the court, Antetokounmpo revealed he completely stopped watching basketball between 2019 and 2024 to combat mental burnout. “I get too obsessive with it,” he confessed.
The interview shifted to the Greek national team in both the second and third parts, with the latter posted Thursday focusing on team leadership. The 31-year-old forward praised head coach Erik Spoelstra for his unique ability to skyrocket a player’s confidence while letting them be themselves. He also shared a wild story about executive Pat Riley flying to Greece to recruit him right on his childhood court.
Meanwhile, Giannis and his teammates wrap up their Preseason 2026 schedule against the Orlando Magic at Kia Center on Friday. On to the 2026–27 Regular Season, they host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Kaseya Center to open their 82-game schedule on Wednesday.
