The Dallas Mavericks waived John Poulakidas (23 years old, 1.98m) just a few days before the start of the NBA regular season.

During the preseason, where he played under a two-way contract, the 23-year-old guard, who has attracted interest from both Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, averaged 7 points and 1.3 rebounds in 14 minutes per game, with a three-point shooting percentage of 45.5% (80% on free throws and 50% on field goals).

His standout performance during the preseason was against the Pelicans, where he scored 16 points.

Last season, he made his NBA debut with the Mavericks, and during the preseason, he attempted to secure a new contract, but this was not achieved. Now, as a free agent, he is in search of a new team.

Poulakidis has been on the radar of Greek teams, mainly Olympiacos, due to his Greek heritage.

However, he does not yet have a Greek passport, and for this season he will not be able to play as a local player in the Greek league. There’s no such restriction for the EuroLeague.
