Spanish basketball icon Pau Gasol was waived by the Portland Trail Blazers.
As Gasol himself said via Instagram, he’s been unable to successfully rehab left foot following surgery. The Blazers had protections in the one-year contract that he signed and this is not the end of the road for him.
Gasol and the Blazers are working on the details of a coaching role as he will remain in Portland to rehab. It remains to be seen if his goodbye on the courts will be the Rio Olympics with the Spanish national team in the upcoming summer.
Over 18 NBA seasons, the 39-year-old has averaged 17.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.
