George on Doncic: He’s still a baby; he’s already doing amazing

Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George talked about how his team defended against Luka Doncic in the win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Doncic came into the match riding on a four-game, franchise-record streak of 30+ points plus 10+ assists. The Clippers put a halt to that as the Slovenian player shot 4/14 from the field, including 0/8 triples, and scored most of his 22 points from the free-throw line (14/16).

“Luka does so much for them,” George said. “He creates offense, he’s a scorer, he rebounds. He does so much for them that we knew we had to wear him out. We had to tire him on the offensive end. Defensively, we just kept a body on them. We never gave him a good look and we switched multiple bodies on him. And we just we tried to threw whatever we got at him. Tonight, we were successful with it.”

After becoming the face of the Mavericks franchise in his rookie NBA season, Doncic is already in MVP talks two months into his sophomore year in the league. The 20-year-old point forward averages 30.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 9.5 assists in 34.0 minutes per game while Dallas is off to an 11-6 start.

“I think that’s what makes it so impressive,” George replied when asked how impressive is what Doncic does at 20 years old. “Because he’s doing it but he doesn’t know he’s doing it. If you get what I’m saying. He’s still a baby. He’s got so much that he’s going to grow. He’s really going to figure it out. He’s already doing amazing right now. He’s going to be scary when he fully figures it out and starts to really hit his prime.
