Knicks hire David Blatt as basketball operations consultant

The New York Knicks have hired David Blatt as a basketball operations consultant, according to Shams Charania.

Blatt has retired from coaching after 26 professional seasons to take Knicks front-office position. He has strong relationships with Knicks executives Steve Mills and Craig Robinson.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach most recently sat at the Olympiacos bench, his fifth EuroLeague team. He previously coached Maccabi Tel Aviv, Benetton Treviso, Efes Pilsen and Darussafaka in the competition.

He won the 2013-14 EuroLeague with Maccabi and was on the head of the Israeli and Russian national team.

The 60-year-old Israeli-American announced, a couple of months before departing from Olympiacos, Blatt announced that he had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He has been discussing about retirement and jobs outside basketball since.
