Breaking part of the tie for first place in the domestic league was the task for Zalgiris on Sunday.

In control with a big lead most of the way, the team based in Kaunas ended up with a 79-55 victory against Wolves in Zalgirio Arena.

Starting center Laurynas Birutis was the top scorer with 15 points. He added four rebounds, two steals, and one block in the Regular Season contest of Lithuania’s Betsafe LKL Regular Season.

Two more double-digit scoring showings with Rolands Smits at 12 points and Tomas Dimsa with ten points. Captain Edgaras Ulanovas threw in six points, five rebounds, and two assists. Danielius Lavrinovicius had nine points, four rebounds, and two assists. Lukas Lekavicius (abdomen), Brady Manek (right knee), and Arnas Butkevicius (left foot) remained unavailable for the team coached by Kazys Maksvytis.

Christian Mekowulu produced a game-high 20 points, a new individual best across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign. However, his side was forced down to 11-3, one game behind co-leaders Zalgiris and Rytas. Held to 25 points in the first half, the growing deficit was too much to handle for the players guided by Kestutis Kemzura.

Switching back to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Zalgiris visits Fenerbahce Beko and team legend Sarunas Jasikevicius on Wednesday. Hosting FC Barcelona in Kaunas wraps up the two-game week on Friday. Sitting at 5-9 with three continental losses in a row, the distance from the Play-In zone is two games.
