The sixth edition of the Portugal Basketball Festival firmly established itself as a premier fixture on the international youth sports calendar during its intensive two-day run in Lisbon on June 27 and 28.

What began in 2021 as a visionary grassroots initiative has since grown exponentially. This rapid evolution was on full display at the 2026 tournament, which welcomed over 70 men’s and women’s teams and drew hundreds of participants aged between 14 and 22.

Reflecting this expanding global footprint, athletes converged on the historic capital city from 11 different nations, including the United States, Canada, Spain, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Bermuda, Belgium, France, Finland, and the host country of Portugal. As the tournament unfolded across multiple city venues, it attracted spectators and tourists whose energy generated a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere.

Beyond serving as an elite athletic showcase for these competitive programs, the festival functioned as an educational platform driven by a mission of deep social impact. By design, the event intentionally leveraged the spirit of sport to foster mutual respect, global citizenship, and social integration among young people from vastly different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

This mission of excellence culminated on the court in highly competitive divisional matchups. In the men’s brackets, MVP International dominated the younger field by securing championship titles in both the U15 and U17 categories, while CM Sports claimed the prestigious U19 crown. The women’s tournament reflected a broader competitive balance as the titles were shared among three different programs, with Quinta dos Lombos capturing the U15 laurels, SAWUSA triumphing in the U17 division, and CM Sports securing the U19 title to mirror their men’s success.

In tandem with these team triumphs, individual excellence was celebrated through Most Valuable Player awards across each division. In the U15 category, Adrian Gordon of MVP International and Amara Costa of Maristas Lugo took home top honors. The U17 MVP distinctions were awarded to Jeremiah Williams of MVP International and Lillian Small of SAWUSA. Finally, the U19 division saw a complete sweep by CM Sports, with star players Anthony Whitter and Alley Marshall earning the final MVP accolades of the festival.

Ultimately, this landmark edition further enhanced Lisbon’s reputation as a prime destination for major sports tourism. By successfully blending athletic prestige with cultural exchange, the tournament has set an exceptionally high benchmark for when the PBF officially returns for its next iteration next summer.
