NCAA Weekly European Report: Alonso not enough for tournament spot

By John Askounis/ info@eurohoops.net

Behind in-form Francisco Alonso, UNC Greensboro made it to the Southern Conference Tournament Final, but lost 70-58 to Wofford on Monday. Alonso scored 19 points in the semifinal and the Spartans beat Furman, 66-62, but his 21 points in the final didn’t do the trick. The senior Spaniard guard topped Eurohoops’ Weekly Report on European action in the NCAA, but UNC Greensboro will likely finish its 2018-19 season participating in the NIT Tournament.

Northeastern, however, was crowned Colonial Athletic Association Champion after its 82-74 victory against Hofstra and will be part of the 68-team field of NCAA’s postseason. Vasa Pusica poured 21 points in the final and averaged 16.7 throughout the playoffs. Jon Axel Gudmundsson, Jaylen Hoard and Matt Haarms also hit the 16-point mark this week and rounded up the Top 5 of the NCAA Weekly European Report.
