In a satirical statement, the French club offered its ‘sincerest apologies’ for competing in the Betclic Elite, the country’s top division, targeting a mindset that values market metrics over sporting merit.
BBD leaned into heavy sarcasm, apologizing for being a community-driven team and celebrating passion that ‘no Excel spreadsheet could ever quantify’.
By doing so, the organization defended the classic European sports model, asserting that a place in the top flight must be earned on the court.

Adding to the intrigue, this small-market underdog is proving its ambition by recently signing NBA veteran Patrick Beverley for the 2026–27 season, a move that instantly backs up their competitive push on the floor.
Their public response was triggered by remarks from Paris president David Kahn. Speaking on RMC Sport’s Stephen Brunch program, the 65-year-old former NBA executive, who has run the capital club since 2018, criticized the architecture of France’s top-tier division. Kahn labeled the current league format ‘boring’, complaining that ten of the sixteen teams are located in small towns, which hurts television rights.
As Paris balances domestic obligations with a demanding EuroLeague campaign, he singled out Boulazac to illustrate a competitive gap, arguing that transitioning from continental matchups to small-market venues is too difficult for high-profile talent.
