Trey Thompkins moves to Zenit St. Petersburg

Zenit St. Petersburg has acquired forward Trey Thompkins for the following season, as announced by the club Wednesday.

Although the club will not compete in the EuroLeague during the 2022-23 season, Xavi Pascual wants to strengthen his roster and keep it competitive.

Thompkins returns to Russia for the first time since the 2014-15 season when he played for Nizhny Novgorod. He spent the last seven seasons under Pablo Laso in Real Madrid, winning a EuroLeague title, four domestic league championships, three Copa del Rey cups and four Super Cups.

During the 2021-22 season, Thompkins saw limited time on the court, and participated in 13 EuroLeague and three Spanish Liga Endesa contests.

Zenit further announced Wednesday they have added guard Joe Thomasson two a two-year deal. Thomasson, 28, last played for Baxi Manresa and was named into the 2022 Basketball Champions League All-Second Team.
