In late January, CSKA Moscow announced the signing of former NBA player Will Barton. However, the US swingman will not be playing for the Russian side.

As officially announced, the contract between the two sides has been terminated, and Barton has returned to the United States.
The club continues to work on finding a newcomer for the shooting guard-small forward position,” as stated by the Russian club.

Artem Komarov reported that the reason behind Barton not joining CSKA Moscow lies in the fact that he didn’t pass the medical tests, but the club didn’t specify.
The contract with Will Barton has been terminated based on one of the specified conditions,” CSKA stated.

Barton was selected as the 40th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers and spent three years in Oregon before moving to the Denver Nuggets, where he played for seven years. He was then traded to the Washington Wizards, and a year ago, he signed with the Toronto Raptors. The 33-year-old amassed 679 NBA regular-season appearances, averaging 11.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
