Unicaja Malaga shuts down Barcelona – ACB Day 12 Recap

By Eurohoops team/ info@eurohoops.net

Unicaja Malaga beat Barcelona 78 – 73 at home to improve its ACB record to 9 – 3 and climb at the second spot in the standings.

This was the second loss for Barcelona this season in Spain. Despite the result, the Blaugrana remain at the top of the table with 10-2.

Malaga went up by 12 points, 70 – 58, with seven minutes to play but Barcelona rallied to make it a one-possession, 76 – 73 after a put-back basket by Victor Claver with 30 seconds left. Yet on the other end, Giorgi Shermadini caught the opposing defense “asleep” and dunked the ball, pretty much sealing his team’s win.

Shermadini finished with four points while Kyle Wiltjer led Malaga with 14. Mathias Lessort added 12 points.

Adam Hanga and Victor Claver had 12 points apiece for Barcelona. Thomas Heurtel dished out 14 assists setting a new club record in ACB by breaking the one he had set himself last March with 13 dimes. He also scored eight points.

It was a gameday of upsets in ACB since earlier today, Breogan stunned Real Madrid at home while on Saturday, Tenerife defeated Baskonia.
