The awards for the 2025-26 Regular Season of Germany’s easyCredit BBL were highlighted by a historic resurgence, led by Most Valuable Player award recipient Andreas Obst.

As announced by the league on Thursday, the FC Bayern Munich sharpshooter secured 48.1 percent of the vote, becoming the first German player to claim the trophy since Pascal Roller in 2004, who then followed the legendary Dirk Nowitzki getting the nod for the 1998-99 season. Adding to his long list of team achievements at the club and international level, including a gold medal with Germany in the FIBA World Cup 2023, this bridges a 27-year gap since Nowitzki’s win, cementing his place alongside the NBA icon as a premier representative of German basketball.

The success of the BMA365 Bamberg Baskets was also a major theme this season, with Anton Gavel overwhelmingly voted Coach of the Year. This was his fifth individual BBL award, following four as a player. His defensive anchor, EJ Onu, was named Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league in blocks.

In other categories, Jack Kayil of ALBA Berlin dominated the U22 Player of the Year presented by Dyn Move Your Sports election with a near-unanimous 93.8 percent of the vote. The 20-year-old combo guard recently declared for the NBA draft, while maintaining a commitment to play for Gonzaga in the 2026-27 NCAA season.

Meanwhile, the race for Offensive Player of the Year was won by 29-year-old Jordan Roland of the VET-CONCEPT Gladiators Trier.
