Sasha Djordjevic stays with Virtus in turn of events

Sasha Djordjevic will officially be staying at the helm of the Virtus Bologna following a “very constructive” meeting between the coach and the club’s management and less than 24 hours after the team announced that he’s fired.

“It was agreed to continue the path that started in March 2019 and which must lead Virtus Bologna to achieve the objectives that the shareholders, the management, coaching staff and players placed upon themselves at the start of the season,” today’s (8/12) announcement mentions. Bologna, that recently made the blockbuster acquisition of former NBAer Marco Belinelli, is 7-0 in EuroCup and 5-4 in the Italian League.

Eurohoops has learned that Several Bologna players supported Dordjevic after it became known that the club sacked him. Many of them, including star guard Milos Teodosic, threaten to leave if the coaching change was definite.

Bologna guard Stefan Markovic made his discontent with Djordjevic’s dismissal public, commenting on the news by writing “When people who don’t know basketball make basketball decisions” on his Instagram. Both he and Teodosic have also played under Djordjevic for the Serbian national team.

Due to his public comments, Markovic was presented to be on the exit door of the club, however, it was officially announced that he will remain in Bologna and get fined.
