Valencia has appointed Alex Mumbru as its new head coach with a three-year deal, per the Spanish club’s Tuesday announcement.

Mumbru, 42, recently parted ways with Bilbao after serving as the head coach for the past four years and will move outside of the club for the first time since 2009. Prior to pursuing a head coach career, Mumbru played in Bilbao between 2009 and 2018.

The Catalan coach steps in Valencia to replace Joan Penarroya, whose move to Baskonia was recently confirmed.

In the meantime, Valencia has already begun planning for next season, by signing guard Klemen Prepelic to a contract extension and parting ways with big Mike Tobey.
