After spending most of the last five years at Valencia, Mike Tobey became a free agent and will not be part of the squad for the 2022-23 season, the team announced Monday confirming a previous report.

Per the press release: Valencia Bakset part ways with Mike Tobey so the American center ends his time at the Club once his contract has ended after five seasons as a Taronja player. Tobey arrived in Valencia for the first time with a temporary contract to join the team that won the 2016-17 Endesa League championship and after a season at Lenovo Tenerife, he returned to Valencia in the summer of 2018 to play the last four seasons defending the Taronja jersey. A journey in which he expanded his achievements with the 2018-19 7DAYS EuroCup championship. Tobey is also the third American player with the most games played in the history of Valencia Basket, with 227 games.

The Club would like to thank the professionalism, dedication and impeccable work ethic shown by Mike Tobey during the time he has defended the Taronja jersey and wishes him the best in his future, both professionally and personally.”

Tobey, 27, averaged 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 0.6 blocks, 0.5 assists, and 0.3 steals per 7DAYS EuroCup contest last season. Packing 6.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in Liga Endesa added to his latest campaign.

Prior to ending the tenure of the Virginia product, the Oranges also released Olivier Hanlan and parted ways with head coach Joan Penarroya. In contrast, they announced the contract extension of Klemen Prepelic.
