Panathinaikos OPAP confirmed Rick Pitino left the Greek team to take over Iona on Friday via press release. Following the second stint with the Greens, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer is already planning for his NCAA return.
Panathinaikos thanked him for his contribution and wished him success in his new job.
As for his track record in Greece, it includes a 10-9 run for a playoffs berth in the 2018-19 season and an 8-10 tally for the current season of Europe’s premier club competition upon the two sides reuniting in November.
Domestically, his team added a Greek championship and a Greek Cup to its list of titles under his guidance.
