After weeks of anticipation, multiple sources confirmed to Eurohoops that the NBA has sent an offer to EuroLeague for a possible collaboration between the two organizations.
No details are yet known about the offer, which is expected to be discussed internally between the EuroLeague management and the clubs/shareholders before the scheduled meeting between the EuroLeague owners in Italy on the 5th of October.
While the NBA has not yet made any official announcements about NBA Europe franchises, it remains on track to launch its own league in Europe next season.
Meanwhile, the EuroLeague is also ready to expand to 24 teams, adding eight new franchises to the current 13 clubs/shareholders, which are in the process of also becoming franchises.
Both the NBA and the EuroLeague declined to comment on Eurohoops information.
However, at this point, nobody denies the constant contact between the two entities, and the future of the sport in Europe is entering a very crucial juncture.
It’s a no-brainer that an ideal pathway would be a joint league, as both EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno and NBA commissioner Adam Silver have stated numerous times, and it remains to be seen if this collaboration is possible.
