Cory Higgins will remain sidelined for approximately 12 additional weeks, FC Barcelona announced Monday.

Higgins, 32, underwent surgery for chronic plantar fasciitis in his left foot today, as recently announced by the Catalan powerhouse. In 2020, he had a procedure for the same diagnosis on his right foot and needed about ten weeks of recovery to get cleared to return to action.

The former Colorado standout last played on January 27 against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne at home. He tallied five points, two assists, and one rebound lasting 16 minutes in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Round 23 contest. His side has since extended the winning streak across all competitions to seven games, including five without Higgins.

Overall in the 2021-22 season, he has generated 9.2 points, 1.7 assists, 1.6 rebounds, 0.5 steals, and 0.3 blocks per EuroLeague game, and 10.7 points, 2.1 assists, 1.9 rebounds, 0.3 steals per appearance in the Spanish League. Barca is currently knotted with Real Madrid at 20-5 and on top of the EuroLeague standings and second in the ACB table trailing its rival, 14-3 to 17-4.

Up next for the team guided by Lithuanian Sarunas Jasikevicius, the 2022 edition of the Copa del Rey. The team is set to face Baxi Manresa at Granada Friday in a quarterfinals fixture. Pablo Laso’s side, Valencia, Joventut Badalona, UCAM Murcia, Rio Breogan, and Lenovo Tenerife make the remaining teams ready to compete for the Spanish Cup.

Barcelona is scheduled to resume the 2021-22 EuroLeague campaign with a trip to Russia for meetings opposite Zenit Saint Petersburg and CSKA Moscow, February 25 and 27, respectively.
