Jordan Mickey stuck with Zenit St Petersburg even after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, leading it to its first-ever VTB League championship last week, though now he’s moving forward for the next step in his career.

Mickey, 27, has advanced negotiations with 2022 7DAYS EuroCup champions Virtus Bologna with the two sides being near a deal, Eurohoops sources confirm.

The American big is a free agent as of the end of the 2021-22 season in the VTB League and he has already begun attracting interest from fellow EuroLeague club Fenerbahce. However, with a deal in place with Virtus, both he and the Italian club can prepare for a EuroLeague return next season.

Mickey posted averages of 14.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists across 16 games in the VTB League this season, and had an average of 10.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in the EuroLeague, prior to the suspension of Russian clubs.

Walla’s Arale Weisberg first reported the upcoming deal between Mickey and Virtus Bologna.
