Zenit Saint Petersburg was down 2-0 and down 3-1 in the series against CSKA Moscow but managed to completely take over and pull off three straight wins to win the 2021-22 VTB United League.

The latest victory came with 81-75 on the scoreboard and on the road at that. This is the first VTB League title for Zenit Saint Petersburg which has been participating in the competition since the 2014-15 campaign.

CSKA managed to recover from a 15-point deficit (42-27) in the first half and had an upper hand throughout the third quarter (60-53), however, Jordan Mickey sparked a 10-0 run for Zenit to start the fourth quarter and they rode that momentum until the very end.

Sergey Karasev, Jordan Loyd, and Denis Zakharov also played a crucial role in the fourth quarter with important points.

Mickey finished the game with 18 points as the top scorer on both sides while Loyd scored 15 and Alex Poythress 13 points. Billy Baron managed to reach ten points despite a bad shooting streak from long-range, which was also a problem for the rest of the squad.

On CSKA’s side, Casper Ware scored 17 in addition to Nikola Milutinov’s big double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Will Clyburn and Alexey Shved added 11 points each.
