Cory Higgins: The most important thing is to be good at the moment of truth

Barcelona star guard Cory Higgins is working towards recovering his full form after struggling in 2021-22 with multiple injury problems.

“There will be ups and downs but I think from the specific program I’m following, I’ll get a lot out of it,” Higgins said per Marc Mundet. “I think yes, I’m on the right track. I’ve had some good games lately.”

On Friday (25/11), Higgins had his most productive game in this EuroLeague season so far while providing a significant winning impact down the stretch. He scored a season-high 17 points, including nine over the last five minutes, to help Barcelona defeat Baskonia at home as the Blaugrana got their second victory in a row in the competition.

Higgins is looking forward to an injury-free season that will be nothing like last year. He missed several games through November and December with a back injury and then had to undergo plantar fasciitis surgery in February which kept him out for almost three months.

He returned to action before the EuroLeague Final Four and played in the tournament but his shape was far from ideal. Barcelona lost to archrival Real Madrid in the semifinal and was then defeated 1-3 by the Blancos in the ACB Finals.

“Last year I had physical problems and we suffered a lot at the end of the season,” Higgins mentioned. “The most important thing is to be good at the moment of truth: in February, in May. I know that I am an important piece and I want to play my best basketball when the right time comes.”
