Despite the rumors, Joan Peñarroya will stay with Baskonia, staying with the team from the Basque Country until the end of the 2023-24 season, as officially announced by the club.

In his first-ever season with Baskonia, the 54-year-old Catalan head coach went really close to bringing Baskonia to the EuroLeague Playoffs and got eliminated both in the Copa del Rey and in the ACB Playoffs against Joventut Badalona.

“Saski Baskonia and Joan Peñarroya have made the joint decision to continue their commitment for one more season. Peñarroya will seek to maintain the style that the Baskonista fans have enjoyed so much with the aim of fighting again for the great sporting goals of next season in both the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the ACB League”, Baskonia’s official press release says.

Before heading to Baskonia, he coached for one season in the EuroCup with Valencia being eliminated in the semifinals against Virtus Bologna. Previously, he won two Basketball Champions League titles in back-to-back fashion with San Pablo Burgos, other than an Intercontinental Cup in 2021.
