After successful abdominal hernia surgery, Tomas Dimsa is expected to represent Lithuania in the 2023 FIBA World Cup and stay on track for the 2023-24 campaign at the club level with Zalgiris.

Dimsa, 29, will be held without basketball for two or three weeks, Zalgiris updated his status Friday.

The surgery was scheduled and performed in Kaunas, as noted.

“This issue hurt me throughout the season. So, I decided to deal with it, after the end of the season,” explained the Lithuanian shooting guard, per the official press release, “Recovery is going according to plan and does not interfere with the offseason schedule.”

A few weeks back, Dimsa inked a contract extension committing to at least two more seasons with the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague participant based in Kaunas.

Zalgiris teammate Arnas Butkevicius’ recent surgery effectively led to him missing the World Cup. In contrast, Dimsa will be available. Previous experience is highlighted by the caps in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Kaunas, in 2021. Qualifiers of the upcoming World Cup and 2022 EuroBasket shape the rest of his experience with the senior national team of his country.

Sacramento Kings’ Domantas Sabonis is unlikely to play for Lithuania in Asia this summer. Also, Marius Grigonis, Lukas Lekavicius, Edgaras Ulanovas, and Rokas Giedraitis are out of contention.

The team coached by Kazys Maksvytis will be in the Philippines for the preliminary round, facing Egypt, Mexico, and Montenegro in the Mall of Asia Arena.
