After a disappointing season, LDLC ASVEL is starting to make moves in the basketball transfer market. Following the addition of Boris Dallo, the club announced the arrival of 28-year-old center John Egbunu.

The French Betclic Elite runner-up has strengthened its frontcourt with the acquisition of the athletic center. Egbunu, who stands at 2.11 meters tall and is of Nigerian-American descent, signed a one-year contract on Thursday.

T.J. Parker believes he will fit perfectly with Youssoufa Fall and Joffrey Lauvergne.

John is a real rim protector, very active on defense, with enormous physical qualities. He’s very mobile, quick on his feet and will complement Youss and Joffrey in the post 5“, Parker said.

In the previous season, Egbunu played for Gaziantep in Turkey, which is ranked third in European basketball. He averaged 11.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks with an impressive shooting percentage of 63.1% in the BSL.

Egbunu played college basketball for four years at the University of Florida, before having his first year as a professional in the 2019-20 campaign with the Long Island Nets in the G League. The following season, he started with a brief stint with KT Sonicboom in South Korea and ended the campaign with Varese in Italy. That is the club where he also played at the beginning of the 2021-22 campaign, prior to moving to Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel.

After four years of playing professional basketball, the Nigerian born center will now have a chance to make his presence felt under the rims in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague“, as per EuroLeague’s official press release.
