A new chapter opens for Yoan Makoundou with a loan assignment to Buducnost VOLI.

AS Monaco officially loaned him to the team based in Podgorica for the 2023-24 season on Thursday.

“I had a superb year in Monaco with an exceptional group. Champion of France, winning the French Cup, and reaching the Final Four. These achievements don’t happen every year,” Makoundou described the 2022-23 campaign.

“I am proud to have been able to contribute, even though I would prefer to play a little more,” he added via the press release of La Roca Team, “I went on loan to get more playing time and develop.”

Makoundou, 23, played for Cholet before moving to Monaco in 2022. “We have a long-term contract with Yoan and have high expectations from him,” commented Monaco’s general manager Oleksiy Yefimov, “We wanted him to play one year with an important role in his team, develop, and gain experience.”

Establishing himself at the top level with Cholet, Makoundou was named Basketball Champions League Best Young Player of the 2020-21 season. Returning to European club continental competitions last season, he averaged 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game over eight appearances in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Shifting to BKT EuroCup with Buducnost, he will team up with Allerik Freeman, Andrija Grbovic, Aleksa Ilic, Marko Jagodic-Kuridza, Marvin Jones, Fletcher Magee, Vladimir Mihailovic, Petar Popovic, Cameron Reynolds, Colbey Ross, Andrija Slavkovic, JaCorey Williams, and McKinley Wright IV under the guidance of Petar Mijovic.
