In a move to take control of the narrative surrounding his sudden absence, FC Barcelona star Will Clyburn took to social media to reassure fans following reports of a heart-related health issue.
The veteran small forward emphasized that much can be ‘lost in translation’, clarified that he is currently ‘good and healthy’, and explained that his sidelined status is a precautionary measure. According to Clyburn, the decision to step away is a matter of following necessary safety guidelines to protect both himself and the club.
Crucially for the Blaugrana faithful, the Detroit native noted that he remains capable of continuing his daily life and basketball activities, framing the upcoming hiatus as a ‘reset’ to prepare for a strong finish to the 2025-26 campaign.
However, this is a significant blow to Barca’s roster depth. Just before their Round 29 matchup in Spain’s Liga Endesa Regular Season against Dreamland Gran Canaria, the club announced that the 35-year-old would be sidelined for at least four weeks. This adds to a crowded injury list that includes Jan Vesely, Nicolas Laprovittola, and Tomas Satoransky.
Clyburn has averaged 12.4 points in Liga Endesa and 13.8 points in EuroLeague play this season, but Xavi Pascual’s side managed a dominant blowout victory at the Palau Blaugrana. The win improved their record to 20-9, leaving them tied for fourth place with only five games remaining in the Regular Season.
As the former EuroLeague champion and Most Valuable Player of the Final Four in 2019 begins his recovery process, his optimistic message suggests he fully intends to return and lead Barcelona through the ACB postseason push.
