Tonye Jekiri is close to extending his contract with Partizan Mozzart Bet, according to a report by Serbian outlet Meridian Sport on Tuesday.
Since he quickly established himself as a reliable, defensive-focused anchor since arriving from CSKA in January as a midseason frontline reinforcement, the Belgrade outfit is keen on securing the 31-year-old Nigerian center for the upcoming 2026-27 season. His presence effectively addressed a critical structural void for the black-and-whites, who had struggled early in the competitive year without a traditional center.
So far with Partizan, the physical big logged 15 EuroLeague games, providing consistent interior production with averages of 7.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. He replicated this efficiency almost exactly in regional competition, posting 9.4 points and 4.9 rebounds across 17 AdmiralBet ABA League appearances to help propel his team through the ongoing championship finals.
With this upcoming extension, Jekiri is poised to expand on his 126 career appearances in Europe’s premier club competition. His veteran experience as a former champion in Belgium with Ostende and a former member of the Nigerian national team remains highly valuable as Partizan builds a more rugged frontcourt roster. Paired with the likely arrival of Kevarrius Hayes, retaining the former Miami standout highlights a strategic initiative to secure a formidable, defense-first paint presence for the team coached by Joan Penarroya heading to the 2026-27 season.
The team based in the Serbian capital has already announced a contract extension with Carlik Jones, and is set to finalize a new agreement with play-caller Penarroya.
