Real Madrid announced on Thursday that they have ended their collaboration with the renowned coach Sergio Scariolo.

It had been rumored for some time that Scariolo was on his way out of Real, and now it has been confirmed. Real Madrid issued a statement on the matter.

“Real Madrid C.F. and Sergio Scariolo have mutually agreed to end his tenure as the head coach of the first basketball team.

Real Madrid, which will always be his home, thanks him for the commitment, dedication, and professionalism he has demonstrated at our club, and wishes him and his family all the best in this new chapter of their lives.”

Scariolo joined at the beginning of the season but failed to win a trophy with the Madrid team. Real played in the EuroLeague Final, where they lost to Olympiacos without their centers, and the fans were even more hurt by the losses in the Copa del Rey Final to Baskonia, as well as in the ACB League Quarterfinals to Tenerife.

Pedro Martinez, the coach of Valencia, has been mentioned as a potential successor for some time.
