After initially being linked to a move with LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, Daniel Theis has instead joined fellow EuroLeague outfit Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv.
The Yellows officially announced the signing on Wednesday.
Per the press release: “Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv is back in a big way. The double-winners have signed Daniel Theis—the tough center of the German national team (2.04 meters / 6’8″, 34)—for the next two seasons. Theis played for Monaco over the past two seasons.

“This is a very significant signing,” stated Club Chairman Shimon Mizrahi. “Daniel Theis is an experienced player, and his addition is a major reinforcement for Maccabi’s defensive end as well. I am glad to announce that after long negotiations, we succeeded in bringing him to Maccabi.”
“Daniel Theis will add a lot of experience to our team,” emphasized head coach Oded Kattash regarding the center. “He has played at every level, in NBA and EuroLeague teams, and won both the World Cup and the European Championship with Germany. He knows what it’s like to be on a winning team and what it takes to be a winning team. Professionally, he is a versatile big man who can play inside and outside, giving us great flexibility at that position. We are looking forward to working together.”
Daniel Theis is an experienced and powerful center who is highly mobile, excels in the pick-and-roll, plays with high energy, moves exceptionally well without the ball, and works hard on both defense and offense.
Theis was born on April 4, 1992, in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, Germany. He grew up in the youth system of Braunschweig alongside his national team teammate Dennis Schroder, and moved to Ulm at a young age, where he was named the BBL Best German Young Player of the season.
In 2014, he signed with Brose Bamberg, winning three consecutive championships and competing in the EuroLeague. In the summer of 2017, he joined the Boston Celtics, playing four seasons for the franchise. Later, he also suited up for Chicago and Houston, returned to TD Garden, joined Indiana, and had stints with the Clippers and New Orleans. He accumulated 411 regular-season games and 41 playoff games in the NBA before returning to Europe in February 2025 to join Monaco.
With the Principality club, Daniel Theis won the league championship, the French Cup, and the Leaders Cup. Last season in the EuroLeague, he averaged 9.7 points (69.2% 2FG), 5 rebounds, and a 12.2 PIR in 20 minutes per game. In the domestic league playoffs, he contributed 13.3 points and 7 rebounds (17.3 PIR).
Theis is, of course, a long-time and key member of the German national team. He starred as a youth international and, in recent years, won the 2023 FIBA World Cup, EuroBasket 2025, and the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2022 with the Mannschaft. In nine games at last summer’s continental championship, he averaged 10.2 points (69.1% 2FG, 44.4% 3FG), 6.4 rebounds, and 1 block per game.”
