Fenerbahce is leaving Abu Dhabi on a high note after beating Dubai BC in the third-place game of the first ever EuroLeague SuperCup.
The final score was 85-77 with Wade Baldwin scoring all of his 11 points in the fourth quarter and deciding the game. Still, Talen Horton-Tucker carried the team with 23 points, while newcomer Trent Forrest also added 11 points.
Elie Okobo and Davis Bertans with 14 points each led Dubai, which couldn’t recover after a crucial 10-0 run by Fenerbahce, which gave the eventual winners a 74-70 lead.
“I think we played well in three of the four quarters”, said Fenerbahce coach Sarunas Jasikevicius after the final buzzer.
As he explained: “We were good in the first two quarters, but then we weren’t prepared for the physicality Dubai brought to the game in the third quarter; they tried to turn the match around using that physicality. We showed both good and bad sides of ourselves during this SuperCup”.
“Yes, it’s true that we have a talented roster, however, talent isn’t what will determine the kind of season we have”, Saras added, “there are so many small details—physicality, loose balls… It is details like these that will define our season.”
