Panathinaikos OPAP dropped Game 1 of the best-of-five series against Real Madrid on Wednesday despite digging its way out of a 14-point hole. After the contest, Rick Pitino mentioned: “We could have won and should have won. We didn’t. I’m not happy of a lot of things. Excuses are a sign of weakness and we won’t use excuses.”

“We went down the well one time to many” the 66-year-old head coach pointed out.

“They had their hands on Keith (Langford) in every pick-and-roll, but we didn’t get the calls. That’s part of the game” he said when asked about his team failing to score in the final four minutes.

“It was a brilliant comeback by a very tough, focused basketball team. I am pleased with the effort, disappointed with a lot of things that went on” he added.

“We will regroup and get ready for the next game” Pitino promised ahead of Game 2.
