Zeljko Obradovic: It’s my job that players play better

Fenerbahce Beko coach Zeljko Obradovic saw his team falling to a 1-4 record in the EuroLeague regular season after losing to Maccabi Tel Aviv on the road with an offensive season-low 55 points.

When asked about Fenerbahce players possibly performing below their level, Obradovic answered that he’s the one responsible for them reaching their usual standards.

“You have watched these players. You know them. I believe that this is not their level. It’s something on the coach. It’s my job that they [the players] play better. Every one of them. This is my team and these are my players. I will always stay with them and I’ll continue to trust them,” Obradovic said in the post-game presser.

Fener scored just 21 points in the first half before improving its game in the third quarter to make a comeback attempt that was left incomplete down the stretch.

“If you come to a situation when you have some offenses and the difference is 5-6 points and you take – if I remember – only one good shot… you can’t say that you played good,” Obradovic said.

“I agree we played a little bit better in the second half because I also believe it’s impossible to play how we played in the first half, to be honest,” the Serbian coach added.
