EuroLeague All-Decade Nominee: Vassilis Spanoulis

By Eurohoops team/ info@eurohoops.net

Per EuroLeague: Already a continental champion and Final Four MVP when the decade dawned, Spanoulis joined Olympiacos Piraeus in the summer of 2010 and led it to the only back-to-back EuroLeague titles this decade, which he stands to end as the competition’s top scorer ever.

n 2012, Spanoulis led Olympiacos to its first EuroLeague title in 15 years by scoring 15 points in the championship game against CSKA and making the decade’s most iconic play; a bounce pass for the game-winner by Georgios Printezis on the season’s last shot after a 19-point comeback over the game’s last 12 minutes. Spanoulis earned the Final Four MVP award again, but he was just getting started. After being voted the 2012-13 EuroLeague MVP, as well, the next year, he proved it by scoring all his 22 points after halftime as Olympiacos rallied from 17 behind to vanquish Real Madrid and become just the second team this century to defend the EuroLeague trophy. His third Final Four MVP trophy in as many title-game victories remains unprecedented.
