Sonny Weems: “Ask the coach how do we get better”

Last night’s match vs Real Madrid didn’t really transpired as Maccabi Tel Aviv planned. The Israelis had hoped to get the first Euroleague victory of the season playing at home in a packed “Menora Mivtachim”arena, with thousands fans backing their efforts.

Yet their opponents had a different opinion on the matter. Driven by a mighty performance by Sergio Llull, the Madridistas forced their opponents to a home defeat and a 0-2 beginning in the season.

According to Sonny Weems, the “Yellows” need to improve in a variety of departments that characterize their game. “We still have a long way to go as a team. Regarding our communication on the defensive end, offensive plays and continuation. Not picking just the first option which is me and Andrew in one-on-one plays. We gotta have more.  We need a second and a third option on the offensive end. Like I said we have a long way to go and a lot to learn as a team. Hopefully this learning will come sooner.”

It’s evident that the lack of a diverse tactical approach on the game of Maccabi bothers the American forward a bit. “We need more on the offensive end. We need a second, third and fourth option. More things to do. To give you an example… when one guy doesn’t have a shot and he swings to the other side? What is the next person supposed to do? Right now we don’t have that. We’re missing a lot of assignments on the defensive end and that’s something we need to work on it on practice. We have to get better at that. I don’t know how. Maybe ask the coach but we have to get better at that. That’s the main thing I see.”
