American point guard Russ Smith was already with one step at the exit door of Galatasaray and after tonight’s game vs Real Madrid, he doesn’t seem to have a future in the “Cimbom”.
Ergin Ataman’s quotes about him during the post-game press conference were pretty much self-explanatory: “We are playing without a point guard because our main point guard is playing terrible, unfortunately. He gave us nothing in these five games and also tonight I put him on the court during the last minute. If he gave us something then we’d have a chance to win the game. I’m talking about Russ Smith.”
In harmony with coach Ataman’s words, few days ago, Galatasaray board member Can Topsakal said that: “We’re not getting what we want from Russ Smith and Justin Dentmon.”
Smith played 9:20 minutes in the match vs Real Madrid scoring 6 points (3/8 shots), grabbing 2 rebounds and dishing 1 assist. In five Euroleague games so far he has averaged 7.6 points on almost 9 minutes per game.
