Omar Prewitt on Final Eight Countdown: I like our chances against AEK

Nymburk will face AEK Athens in the quarterfinal stage of the upcoming Basketball Champions League Final Eight (30/9 – 4/10). It will be a challenging task for the Czech side that will be battling the tournament hosts and a favorite to lift the trophy; a squad packed with experienced guys with championship pedigree.

While the odds may theoretically be against him and his team, Nymburk wing Omar Prewitt doesn’t plan on getting intimidated by his opponent’s star-power. Quite the contrary.

“AEK is a great team. I played them twice last year. We split with them. They got a lot of big-name players. Great scorers, just great players all around Europe. Going in against them, it’s a one-game series, anything can happen. You can say that’s favorable for us,” Prewitt said during his appearance in Eurohoops “Final Eight Countdown. “You only have to win one game. It takes that perfect game and you can win anything.”

“I like our chances,” Prewitt added. He will be playing against such players as Tyrese Rice, Nikos Zisis, Keith Langford, Jonas Maciulis and Marcus Slaughter, among others.

It’s a “win-or-go-home” battle in which keeping your cool and retaining the right mindset for 40 minutes can be the keys behind the win, Prewitt believes.

“You just got to make sure you have the right mindset getting into it,” Prewitt said. “Don’t get too high, don’t get too low throughout the games. When you’re playing in those games and you hit a big shot…it might take you out of the game. You just have to keep the right mindset and stay focused throughout the game.”
