Jasiel Rivero has bought out his contract to become a free agent, Hereda San Pablo Burgos announced Thursday. Valencia later confirmed him as an addition to its squad.

Per the press release: “Valencia Basket has reached an agreement to incorporate Cuban international power forward Jasiel Rivero (2.06m, Havana, 10/31/1993, 27 years old) to its first men’s squad for the next 2 seasons, until June 30, 2023. The player comes from Hereda San Pablo Burgos with whom he has played the last two seasons under the command of the new Taronja coach, Joan Peñarroya. Rivero has been a key player in the achievement of the three titles for the Burgos team, which has won the Champions League twice and the Intercontinental Cup once.”

Rivero, 27, had been linked to several teams after a breakout season with Burgos. Panathinaikos had shown strong interest in securing his services. However, Valencia had since become the frontrunner.

He helped his first Spanish team win back-to-back titles in the Basketball Champions League going for 12.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.5 blocks per appearance in his latest BCL run.

Incoming Suleiman Braimoh is likely to replace him moving forward as Burgos continues planning for the 2021-22 season featuring the Champions League and Spanish domestic competitions.
