DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell jumps to Galatasaray

Fresh off playing in the NBA Summer League, DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell inked a one-year contract, including an option for one more season, with Galatasaray Nef, the team announced Monday.

Akoon-Purcell, 28, comes back for yet another campaign in the Basketball Champions League after logging 31 appearances between the Bakken Bears and Tofas. His new side is part of Regular Season Group E along with ERA Nymburk, PAOK, and Igokea.

He posted 13.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per Summer League contest attached to the Atlanta Hawks in Las Vegas. Last season, he averaged 15.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per appearance with Tofas across all competitions.

The former Illinois State standout has also displayed his all-around talents in Israel and France, besides Turkey and Denmark, since introducing himself to European fans. His pro experience also includes seven NBA games as a member of the Denver Nuggets in 2018-19.

The athletic small forward is the ninth summer addition for the Turkish club following Sadik Kabaca, David Kravish, Ridvan Oncel, Canberk Kus, Okben Ulubay, Dee Bost, Melo Trimble, and Ege Arar. Captain Goksenin Koksal has been re-signed.
